Students with learning disabilities can have a significant impact on their self-esteem and stress management.

Learning challenges

Ongoing learning difficulties, such as difficulty reading, writing, or understanding maths, can lead to feelings of inadequacy and decreased self-confidence. Students may compare themselves to their peers and feel like they are falling behind or not meeting expectations, which can negatively impact their self-esteem.

Negative feedback

Students with learning disabilities may receive negative feedback from teachers, peers, or even themselves, which can further undermine their self-esteem. Experiences of failure or repeated criticism can lead to a decrease in one's self-esteem and confidence in one's abilities.

Students may compare themselves to peers who do not have a learning disability and feel “less capable” or “less intelligent”. This comparison can contribute to a negative self-perception and low self-esteem.

  • Encourage self-advocacy skills and teach them to communicate their needs effectively.
